Jalapeno Cornbread

Sift together:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup yellow corn meal
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder

Add:
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/4 cup shortening (or oil)

Beat until smooth.  Add:
1 (8oz) can cream style corn
2 tbsp chopped jalapeno peppers

Stir to mix.  Pour into lightly greased 9x9-inch pan.  Bake at 425* for 35-40 minutes or
until golden brown.  Green chilies may be used instead of jalapenos, if a milder flavor
is desired.
